8. Problem Definition

I started off very confused in this project as to which role I play. I'm a designer, and someone who would dive deep into research to find an audience insight/ personal problem that I would truly want to solve. But, that's not my role here. I am here to worry about production not design.

I met with the group and we went through a series of problems.

I got really excited about some of them, particularly the door knob design - I felt the potential there especially because of norman doors! which i first encountered at acad 1st year... when i was reading the design of every day things. The timing was amazing.

But, after this meeting I tried to stay back, avoiding the urge to lead and guide the project problem definition. It was a big group of designers and they were here to learn/work on their part of the project. We became two separate teams in my mind. In hindsight this was probably a mistake. I detached from the design side (I thought in a healthy, positive way) and waited for the approach to be clarified.

When we were struggling I suggested youtubers like Evan & Kaitlyn and the Crazy Russian Hacker Kitchen Gadgets Series  and I appreciated when you said that it's not about inventing, it's about designing or re-designing a solution for a problem (even if there is an existing product - it can always be better).
